I am the author of Small Websites, Great Results, the definitive book on the new movement of website design and creation that is sweeping the Internet. The book expertly shows how smaller and focused websites are better than bloated sites, and that quality is much better than quantity.
As a web producer with more than nine years of experience in website design, development, and maintenance, I assist businesses and organizations with how their websites are organized, what they do, and what they say. By combining strong editorial sensibilities with broad technical capabilities, I help my clients make the most of their online endeavors.
Highlights of my recent work include:
- A monthly HTML email newsletter for UT McDonald Observatory that currently has more than 15,000 subscribers.
- Commerce applications for Aid to Artisans, a Connecticut-based non-profit with annual revenue of more than $8 million, Texas Weekly, an Austin-based political newsletter with more than 1,000 online subscribers — including the highest-ranking members of Texas politics, and Penner's Inc., a top online men's clothing merchant based in San Antonio.
- Articles about web development and judging for the WebAward Competition in 2003, 2004, and 2005.
My clients range from small startups to the state of Texas and the University of Texas McDonald Observatory, for whom I manage the website for the popular public radio program StarDate.
My journalism background includes newspaper reporting and magazine writing and editing in the business and science fields. I earned bachelor's and master's degrees in journalism from Northwestern University.
